The 22 Grant Schools (傳統名校)
"Grant schools" are the church schools funded under the pre-war Grant Code — the core of what Hong Kong parents call the traditional elite schools. The 22 schools below are the members of the Grant Schools Council, a closed list published by the council itself. It is a historical fact, not a ranking of any kind.

What is a grant school?
From the 19th century, Catholic and Protestant churches ran schools in Hong Kong subsidised by the government under the Grant Code — hence "grant schools". The Grant Schools Council was formed in 1939 and today has 22 member schools, all secondary.
Seven are now DSS
Between 2001 and 2011, 7 of the 22 converted to the Direct Subsidy Scheme — St. Paul's Co-educational College, St. Paul's College, Diocesan Boys' School, St. Paul's Convent School, Diocesan Girls' School, Ying Wa College and Heep Yunn School; the other 15 remain aided. Grant-school identity is heritage, separate from today's funding mode.
Membership is not a ranking
Council membership is historical — it does not grade teaching quality, and many excellent Hong Kong schools are not on this list. Choose schools on objective facts: curriculum, medium of instruction, fees, district — and visit in person.
