THE INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI SCHOOL - AN IMEF SCHOOL

Established in 2002, the school’s mission is to enable children to develop their individual gifts in a caring, supportive and respectful community. Our goal as Montessori educators is to embrace this innate drive by providing optimal learning environments for our bright, engaged and inquisitive students.

The school pioneers a unique, individually tailored Chinese curriculum based on Montessori’s multi-sensory and interactive approach, and is considered one of the world’s leading Montessori dual-language programmes. Located on four campuses across Hong Kong Island, IMS is the only accredited Montessori primary school in Greater China, serving children up to 14 years from over 40 countries.

Each IMS classroom is led by a team of two, an English-speaking and a Putonghua-speaking teacher, and is carefully designed to give children opportunities to engage in meaningful learning with the proper balance of autonomy and guidance. Activities in the bilingual Foundations Groups (ages 2-3) encourage toddlers to explore creatively, in a cosy, language-rich and highly interactive environment – the best preparation for learning. The Casa dei Bambini programme (ages 3-6) supports children in moving towards a mastery of self and the environment. The IMS elementary programme (ages 6-12) encourages children to learn all subjects from many directions through all disciplines by taking full advantage of their developing capacity to reason. IMS Middle School is Hong Kong’s only Montessori programme for adolescents aged 12–14. Its bilingual, multi-age environment combines inquiry and project-based learning, tailored to support this transformative stage of development. IMS graduates successfully stream into top international secondary schools in Hong Kong and around the world, with enhanced academic and social skills, and a very strong foundation in both Chinese and English. Mid-Levels Campus (ages 2-6) has 3 bright Casa dei Bambini classrooms, a large play area, a children’s kitchen, a library and a vertical garden where our youngest children enjoy their first years in our school! We also have a lovely environment for toddlers to experience their first taste of Montessori in our Foundation Groups (ages 2-3).
