Curriculum & Approach
The school has been servicing the residents of Ho Man Tin with Christ's love since 1980 . With social changes and educational reforms, St. Mark's Church decided to re-launch the kindergarten in September, 2013 and to re-introduce quality teaching elements to cultivate children's good character, love for God and others and passion for learning.
''Human-centered education'' is designed to create a balanced and appropriate school-based curriculum that gradually builds a solid foundation for children, enabling them to smoothly transition to elementary school courses. Specialized teaching allows children to learn two languages and three subjects through play. With the integration of environmental education, children learn new knowledge through observation, exploration, and problem-solving. Every day, during morning assembly, children are guided to learn praise, care, and gratitude through rhythmic exercises, poems, and prayers, embodying the principles of life education in truth, goodness, and beauty. We will follow the “Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide” (2017) to plan curriculum. Children of nursery classes will not be asked to write, and there will not be mechanical copying exercises and drills on calculation.
● By incorporating instructional and exploratory activities, we aim to ignite children's interest in learning and enhance their existing knowledge while broadening their thinking domains through processes such as reflection, analysis, problem-solving, and inquiry. ● Fridays are designated as activity days, where learning takes place through games. In the kindergarten class, children will learn African drumming through an ''African Adventure,'' which will improve their focus through simple and lively rhythms. Nature education will enable children to construct knowledge through rich outdoor experiences involving their bodies and senses.● Small group learning will cultivate children's willingness to express their opinions and enhance their confidence.● Implementing a school-based English reading program will enhance children's interest in the English language.
